National Museum of Iran

National Museum of Iran has the greatest collection of artifacts and relics of Iranian history, capturing the different eras of its ancient history from pre-historic times to the contemporary era. The museum includes two massive complexes: The Museum of Ancient Iran (Mūze-ye Irān-e Bāstān) and the Museum of the Islamic Era. The former is a formidable building designed by André Godard and Maxime Siroux based on the works of the Sassanid architects and built by Iranian masters, Abbas Ali Memar and Morad Tabrizi in 1937. A second building was later erected in 1972 to champion the Islamic history of Iran. The museum is Located in 30th Tir, one of the most famous streets of Central Tehran, known for holding a great number of Tehran tourist attractions and government buildings such as Glassware and Ceramic Museum of Iran, Gol Rezaieh Café (a historic and exotic restaurant) and of course Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The place is a must-see for any cultural tourist most of whom know exactly how to go to National Museum of Iran. But the most convenient way to reach the National Museum of Iran (especially if you are not good with finding an address) is to take the metro and get off at Imam Khomeini Metro Station (the same route for reaching Tehran Grand Bazaar and Golestan Palace, both popular with Tehran tours). It is less than a 10 minutes’ walk from there to the site of the museum. National Museum of Iran opening hours are from 9 AM to 6 PM and the entrance fee is 500,000 in Iranian rial. In the Museum of Ancient Iran, the main focus is on history and culture covering a stunning span of time, from the Lower Paleolithic period to the time of ancient Iranian empires before the Arab Invasion of Persia. Artifacts from later periods are showcased in the Museum of the Islamic Era. These include coins, rare handwritten books and famous manuscripts. There is also a section for the exhibition of contemporary art on the ground floor of the museum where you will also find a café and a gift shop.
