Tochal is the nearest mountain ridge to Tehran spanning an area of over 12 km. The highest peak of the ridge with the elevation of 3,933 m is also named Tochal. But why should a mountain attract so much attention? The answer lies in a massive entertainment resort built at its foothills that includes a superb ski resort and one of the longest gondola lifts in the world among others. Tochal ski resort is less than an hour’s drive from Tehran and is accessible via different routes. If you are a mountain enthusiast and want to climb some of the peaks around the capital, you have many options among the peaks accessible by Tochal ridge. These include Tochal (3,933 m), Lavark (3,560 m), Bazarak (3,753 m), Shah-Neshin (3,875 m), West Lezon (3,585 m), Piaz-chal (3,540 m) and Sar-Bazarak (3,640 m).
If you are not particularly fit for a challenging climb or simply not a climbing fan, there is a much easier way of reaching the highest peak in the ridge and that is via the gondola lift from its first and lowest base in Tochal Complex located in Velenjak district. There are seven stations but only four stops. Going all the way until the 7th station, you will find yourself in Tochal ski resort. From there to Tochal’s highest peak is only a 30 minutes’ walk. The nearest accommodation to the ski resort is Tochal Hotel located 3545 m above sea level. The place isn’t luxury but cozy and comfortable. As for other facilities we should mention the great recreational center at Tochal Complex in Velenjak. The center offers a scary Alpine rollercoaster, a bungee jumping site and a 5D stimulator for people in need of a doze of adrenalin. There are also many colorful and chic restaurants and stalls serving delicious food and drinks. Another great thing about Tochal is that its splendors aren’t limited to the skiing season. Given the cool weather and natural beauty of the region, Tochal hiking tours are very popular all through the year. These 1-day tours gather all the natural grandeur of Tochal in one compact package which is a blessing for the people seeking a respite from the tedious city life.
