Another
major city in Iran that had been for years the capital of the country is
Tabriz. Tabriz is located in a vast valley surrounded by the red ridges of Eynali mountain range and the lofty peaks of Sahand. Tabriz has been a center of
commerce since the antiquity partially due to its geographical upper hand as the
largest and most populated city in northwest of Iran along the famous Silk Road.
As a result of the latter, Tabriz became the center of commerce in Iran and its
grand bazaar, one of the most prosperous of its kind in the world. This
unsurpassed wealth and splendor occasioned the establishment of countless
cultural and economic centers, stunning monuments and political buildings.
However, destiny or what we call kismet in this part of the world, had a
horrendous plan up its sleeve for Tabriz. A calamitous earthquake rocked the
city and in a matter of seconds all that glory and wealth came to dust. Although
during the subsequent decades the city was back on its feet thanks to
large-scale restoration projects, most of the historical sites included in our
Tabriz sightseeing tours carry wounds inflicted by the cruel hands of time over
their centuries-old bodies. Arg of Tabriz with the gigantic cracks on its walls
and the Blue Mosque with its damaged azure façade all remind the viewers of the
fleeting and precarious state of the world with all its false promises and
transient bliss. With this rather long prologue, let us take a look at the
places to visit in Tabriz. Most of the greatest points of interest for tourists
are gathered around the city center.
Bazaar of Tabriz, is indisputably the most
important historic site in the city. The largest covered bazaar in the world is
also in a way a microcosm of the world. Rich and poor, young and old move up and
down the thousands of chambers, alleys, halls and yards buying and selling
things striving to render themselves oblivious to the triviality of existence.
The next stop is a group of historical houses each representing a political and
social event in the long history of Azerbaijan. Amir Nezam House, the
Constitution House of Tabriz and Behnam House are among these politically
significant and artistically superb monuments. El Goli, one of the oldest public
parks in Iran and the safe haven of Tabriz people is another place on our
itinerary. As stated earlier, Tabriz is somehow the capital of the northwest of
the country. Consequently, Tabriz boasts a wide array of accommodation options
amongst which there are four luxurious five-star hotels and numerous other
hotels and guesthouses.
