Shahr-e Kord, the capital city of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, is among the world’s highest urban areas. With an altitude of 2,070 m above the sea level, Shahr-e Kord has earned herself the title of “Roof of Iran”. Located 90 km from Isfahan, one of the largest and most visited cities in Iran, Shahr-e Kord is a popular destination for travelers, especially during the summer. People who want a respite from the summer’s heat come to Shahr-e Kord from Tehran, Yasuj, Kermanshah, Isfahan and southern coastal cities such as Bandar Abbas. The most convenient way to reach the city is using the modern intercity bus services from Isfahan. The journey by bus will take less than 90 minutes and it is also the most economical option. However, if you prefer a direct flight to the city, you can book weekly flights from Tehran and Mashhad to Shahr-e Kord Airport. Most people know Shahr-e Kord as a summer idyll but there are other reasons for traveling to this beautiful city other than its wonderful weather. Koohrang Ski Resort

Koohrang Ski Resort (also known as Chelgerd Ski Resort) is located in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province 85 km west of Shahr-e Kord. Given the region’s high level of annual precipitation, the resort is active for most of the ski season. It is near the Koohrang Tunnel, an area known for wonderful natural springs and stunning landscapes. The resort is equipped with basic facilities and is especially ideal for skiing during the weekdays when it is practically empty. In the 800 m long ski field there are three moderately steep slopes and ski lifts which provide a perfect setting for young skiers and families. For those of you who want to spend a night or two near the resort, the best option is Koohrang Hotel which is less than a kilometer away from the ski resort. Koohrang Hotel is a three-star accommodation with standard amenities and a spacious restaurant that serves excellent local meals.

 

Bardeh Ski Resort

Bardeh is a village 50 km northwest of Shahr-e Kord in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province. The rural area is known for its unsullied nature and a ski resort. It is only a half-hour drive from the capital of the province to Bardeh ski resort. That is why during ski season many people come to enjoy the facilities and spectacular powder of Bardeh ski resort.

 

Chaleshtor Castle

Chaleshtor Castle is a historic monument in Shahr-e Kord and is a national heritage site. The castle dates back to late Qajar era and formerly belonged to the wealthy Chaleshtori family. The massive area of the castle spans over 12000 m2 and includes two separate northern and southern buildings. Numerous chambers and halls of the castle are embellished by paintings and plasterwork of ethereal beauty. External decorations are dominated by the Qajar style of architecture characterized by stone pillars and subtly bedecked arches. The castle is open to public viewing from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM all through the week except for religious red days.
