Qazvin Province is a mountainous region located in the northwest of Iran between Zanjan and Tehran. Qazvin may be found on the map of Iran right between the peaks of Alborz mountain range and the coastal cities of Mazandaran Province. As a city that once was the capital of Iran, Qazvin has a long and turbulent history. As well as being one of the political capitals of Iran, Qazvin has been also the calligraphy capital of Iran. Many of the fathers of different styles of Persian calligraphy had been from Qazvin and the city continues to produce artists with divine artistry of creating worlds out of letters. Most of Qazvin’s international fame lies in the wide reputation of Alamut, a fierce mountainous land in Qazvin Province. Alamut and its many forts were conquered by a sect of Isma’ili Shia known as the Hashashins in the 12th century commanded by Hassan-i Sabbah, a great military and spiritual leader. The Hashashins or Assassins, as they are known in the western world, ruled over Alamut for about two centuries and in the process continued to defy their political rivals through assassination and intimidation. The remnants from these towering forts built high on Alborz mountains still have a portentous aura around them. However, Qazvin Province has much more to offer besides Alamut and its lofty castles. The Ancient Bazaar of Qazvin is one of the oldest in the country and still continues to thrive despite the establishment of numerous modern malls. Chehel-Sotun is one of many historical monuments in Qazvin and highlights the city’s former prosperity and significance. Religious buildings are another aspect of Qazvin’s tourist spots. Jameh Mosque and Aminiha Hoesseynieh are the most well-known of these edifices. Qazvin is an ancient city and largely due to the historical sites mentioned above, is mentioned in most of the ancient travelogues and related scripts. Qazvin sightseeing tours together with Qazvin off-road tours are some of our most popular Iran tour packages and they continue to gain popularity as more and more people know about this ancient capital of Iranians.
