Grand Recreational Pier

Most of Kish tourist attractions are related to the sea in one way or another. Its beach resorts are the number-one vacation spot for many Iranians who enjoy Kish tours while residing in luxury hotels with a stunning view of the Persian Gulf. Even those budget travelers lodging in Kish hostels can enjoy the facilities as their cost is quite reasonable. All kind of sea sports are practiced and there are numerous water and amusement centers. One such spectacular place for relishing the marvelous sights of the sea and playing water sports in Kish is Grand Recreational Pier. The pier opened in 2007 as a unique promenade for the people to enjoy the serenity and fresh air of the sea while having a stroll. Grand Recreational Pier is a massive structure. It is about 450 meters long and 18 meters wide (at the far end of the pier you will be half a kilometer into the Persian Gulf!). The pier is also completely environmentally friendly. It has no negative effects on the ecosystem of the island specially on the vulnerable coral reefs. Grand Pier is within walking distance of the famous shopping malls of Kish such as Venus and Zeytun. As well as being a unique promenade, Grand Pier is practically a water amusement park. You can enjoy a wide array of water activities in here. There are boat rentals with many different types of boats where you can have a boat ride by yourself or join a group on a speed boat. There are centers that equip you with diving gadgets and send you down to the colorful depths of the Persian Gulf (Don’t worry! A pro diver will jump into the water with you). If you are looking for higher doses of adrenalin you can have a thrilling ride on a jet ski or fly over the blue waters in a parasailing adventure. There are also a bowling center, theatres and various restaurants just around the corner.

Among the many spots visited in the course of Kish day tours, some are better known than others. These are the Greek Ship, Harireh Ancient City, Kariz Underground City, Dolphin Park and Grand Recreational Pier. You already know about the latter; for having a peek into the other three, keep reading.

Greek Ship

This is a very bizarre sight at the first glance: an abandoned ship in a derelict state motionless on one of the most beautiful coasts of the Persian Gulf. But the story of the Greek Ship and Kish Island is a half-a-century old love story. The ship ran aground on the coast of Kish in 1966 and since then has become a part of every sunrise and sunset in this gem of an island. It is one of the most popular places for taking pictures in Kish (very romantic indeed!).

Kariz Underground City

Although it is called a city, Kariz is in fact a nexus of interconnected subterranean canals known as qanats. These amazing structures were used to provide the locals with drinking water. The site is renovated and equipped with many facilities to enhance your experience of the magical qanats.

Dolphin Park

The first dolphinarium in Iran has much more to offer beside dolphins. There are many other sea mammals including walruses and sea lions and a spectacular aviary clothed in tropical trees and other exotic plants.

Harireh Ancient City

One of the oldest trade centers of the Persian Gulf is now in ruins. But 800 years ago, Harireh was a hub redolent of spices, colored with cashmere and sparking with precious pearls. There are many water wells and qanats in the vicinity of the ruins, all in the foreground of the ever-present blue of the Persian Gulf.
