Kish is on the top of the charts when it comes to recreational tourism. A wide range of water activities are available on the island. These include snorkeling, water skiing, scuba diving, jet skiing, parasailing, motor boating, sailing and fishing plus many other activities such bungee jumping, ice skating and kart racing. Add the wealth of historic sites and the first-rate quality of Kish hotels to the features above and you understand why Kish is most people’s number one choice in the south of Iran. In what comes below we will present some of the most important of Kish’s tourist attractions.
1. Harireh Ancient City More than eight centuries ago, there was a city on the island of Kish known in the region as a major center of commerce. But that city does not exist anymore. Although there are just ruins from what was used to be Harireh, they beam with the authenticity of historic monuments. The historic site includes a mosque, a public bath, a glass making workshop and a mansion. There are also subterranean canals under the site known as qanats. These were used to channel the drinking water to the city.
2. Grand Recreational Pier This is a beautifully-made pier used for many recreational activities including a great variety of sea entertainment. There are boat and jet ski rentals and places specially designed for scuba diving. But the main attraction of the pier for people is its function as a spectacular promenade. One that takes them deep (about 459 meters) into the sea. Together with the superb City Park, the pier is the favorite hang-out area in Kish, Iranians’ favorite vacation spot.
3. Kariz Underground City We have already mentioned qanats in the current article but what you will come across in Kariz is a completely different thing. You will enter a maze of qanats each leading to another one all placed deep under the ground.
4. Greek Ship In 1966 a large ship that belonged to a Greek company ran aground on the coast of Kish island. All efforts to pull the ship back into the free waters proved in vain and it was ultimately abandoned. What is special about a derelict ship you might ask. Well you have to wait till the sunset to see the sublime figure of the Greek Ship mingling with all the colors of the dying sun.
