Once the capital of Iran and one of its most prosperous cities during the
turbulent years of the second half of the 18th century,
Kerman is located near
both of Iran’s grand deserts, Dasht-e Kavir (also known as the Great Salt
Desert) and Dasht-e Lut, bordering Zahedan Province in the southeast of the
country. Kerman is also one of the
major cities in Iran that has come under
violent attacks of belligerent armies in its long history and has paid a dear
price in the transition. When Agha Mohammad Khan Qajar, the first of his name
invaded Kashan in the wake of a long siege, he brutally murdered and blinded
most of the male population of the city. But this resilient civilization raised
once again from the ashes and soon was back on the track of development by the
reconstruction of many old edifices and the establishment of new ones. Of
especial historical significance is a 2500 years old citadel named Arg-e Bam
located in Kerman Province 190 km from the city a favorite of international
tourists. Despite being seriously damaged during the horrifying earthquake of
2003, Arg-e Bam was successfully restored and opened once again to public
viewing. Although visits to Arg isn’t part of Kerman Sightseeing tours, it is an
easy drive from Kerman and could be arranged if requested. Our
Kerman
sightseeing tours however covers most of the amazing
tourist
attractions in Kerman and include visits to the majestic Jabalieh,
one of many remaining structures from the pre-Islamic period, Kerman’s old
bazaar, the spectacular collection of Zoroastrians Museum of Kerman, Ganjali
Khan Complex where one is greeted by the best of Iranian artistry of the long
reign of Safavid monarchs and last but not the least Malek Mosque, a work where
devout spiritualism is tempered by Iranian artistry and finesse.
