The ever-beautiful province of Gilan within Iran’s northern coast is packed with
gorgeous and marvelous places and resorts which could easily satisfy almost any
type of visitor regardless of their preferences. The wild and colorful nature of
this region is second to none in the whole Middle East area and could handily
hold its own against any sub-tropical area in the Europe as well. One of Gilan’s
most visited and reputable cities that have helped the province to reach such a
status of poularity would be Lahijan. This county - which is known as the bride
of Gilan - is located in the east of the province and is surrounded by the
Caspian Sea and the Alborz Mountain slopes. It is approximately 45 km from
Gilan’s capital city of Rasht, and an hour drive which would cost you 15 dollars
could get you there. This gorgeous region which offers great weather,
delicious dishes and marvelous scenes has a trick up her sleeve; the Satan’s
Hill.
Satan’s Hill - or Sheytan Kouh as the locals call it - refers to an area in the
east of Lahijan with a marvelous waterfall, an artificial lake and a beautiful
Island in the middle which almost looks like a green ice berg. This captivating
place which was previously called Shah Neshin Kouh (meaning “King’s Abode Hill”)
had a 200 to 70 meter pond in the front that was used for the nearby fields’
irrigation. Later this pond was turned into an artificial
lake with a waterfall pouring inside it, and also an island on which a lovely
mansion could be sighted. There is a special stairway built from the starting
point of the waterfall that ascends toward the top of the hill and another great
area called the “Green Roof”. The whole area is built precisely to provide the
visitors with a very accessible route to the most geographically-attractive
points of the region and that helps those interested in photography in their
pursuit to frame the heavenly nature of Satan’s Hill. The view you get from the
top is breathtaking and begs to be captured since you could see the entire Lahijan Lake below and the beautiful hills around which are covered with tea
fields. In fact, this place is considered one of the best tea supplies in the
whole country with a considerable amount of exportation to different parts of
the world. Finally, once you are in Gilan, you have a lot of options as to how
you want to explore the region or what type of accommodation you would prefer
for your stay. You could reside in a number of prestigious Gilan hotels or one
of the many Gilan hostels available based on your budget. Moreover, to visit
Gilan tourist attractions such as the marvelous Satan’s Hill,
Gilan Rural
Heritage Museum, the Gilan Visadar Waterfall or the
Fandoqlu Forest, you
could use taxis or any of the following Gilan tours that include the mentioned
locations on their route; Some of the best tourist programs in the area include
Gilan trekking tours,
Caspian Sea nature tours and
Caspian Sea boat riding
tours. You may not get to see the devil himself at Satan’s Hill, but what you
would see will not disappoint you at all.
