Gilan Rural Heritage Museum
Every day thousands of people leave their houses for a new destination across
the globe. Some of these travels are to fulfill obligations, be it business,
family or else. But there is another group with a different attitude and motive
who venture to expand their horizons. For them, studying a new culture, region
and its people is as fun as it is life-changing. In Iran, the unique culture of
the rural people of the north has always been of interest to both local and
foreign anthropologists. The
Gilan Province which hosts a lot of culturally
significant villages has made a great effort to preserve and display the
singular rustic culture and traditions of its people, and that is best exhibited
through the establishment of the
Gilan Rural Heritage Museum in 2002.

In terms of accommodations and the diversity of the tourist attractions, there
is no doubt that
Gilan would arguably be a top proposition. While most of the
foreign visitors who come to Iran, target the central provinces for their
historical importance, most Iranians choose the northern coast as their travel
destination for the holidays and weekends. This verdurous region provides the
visitors with spectacular exotic locales in its forests, waterfalls, hills and
beautiful coasts one could not help but appreciate and record. Some of
Gilan
tourist attractions include the
Fandoqlu Forest, the
Visadar Waterfall,
Satan’s
Hill and last but not least the Gilan Rural Heritage Museum. It is quite
befitting for such a magnificent place to have special programs and resorts for
the tourists to help them have the best time possible and experience the place
to the fullest of its potential. Fortunately, such plans and programs are in
full effect and ready to accommodate all types of visitors. Among these plans
one could mention the diverse
Gilan tours including
Gilan trekking tours,
Caspian Sea nature tours and
Caspian Sea boat riding tours. But one of these
tourist packages is unique in its proposal; Gilan Rural Heritage Museum. This
museum is located inside the Jungle Park of Sar
avan near the City of Rasht. The
elaborate tourist facility was designed to function as a live-action program
representing the authentic architecture, traditions, costumes, cuisine and
ultimately the lives of the people of rural Gilan. The cottages, the actors, and
all the accommodations which have been set up inside this museum help preserve a
lively, rich and attractive culture which would provide the visitors with
first-hand experience of the rustic life in Gilan. The property is 45 hectares
and is filled with houses some of which are 150 years old and are equipped with
genuine handcraft tools as they would be used by the villagers. Also, some of
the regions’ traditional rituals are enacted by skilled actors to portray the
unique, intriguing and colorful aspects of their historical culture. Finally,
other than participating in specific tour packages and programs that have listed
it, to reach this wonderful museum which is situated 18 kilometers south of
Rasht - the capital city of Gilan – you could take a taxi and a 6
-dollar
ride
would get you there in under an hour.
