But what is it that makes Fandoqlu Forest a sight to behold? Well, in one word, hazels. This amazing area is filled with hazel trees and that is what the name Fandoqlu (meaning “of hazel”) stems from. But that is not all. A variety of other types of fruits and trees add to the beauty of this scenic location; quinces, strawberries, raspberries, wild apples, green tomatoes, hornbeams, beech, pussy willows and chest-leaved oaks provide all kinds of captivating aromas, tastes, scenes and ultimately feelings which would have you forget all about the craziness of our digital world in no time and with no effort. It would be remiss if we do not mention the gorgeous birds such as pheasants, partridges and golden eagles that live there as well. This fantastic jungle is divided into three sections, the Small Fandoqlu, the Great Fandoqlu and the median fields that fill up the 700 meter area between the other two parts. This lovely area has other perks that add to the overall experience of the visitors; for instance, there is the Meshe Sui Hot Spring inside the jungle with its therapeutic benefits that make it ideal for recovering from fatigue, jetlag, and also relaxation and meditation. There is also a waterfall, a tele-cabin (called Fandoqlu-Heyran), and a resort in the jungle that could accommodate the visitors for a couple of days in the forest. The Fandoqlu Forest which is geographically considered as the continuation of the subtropical forests of Gilan and is situated near the Astara-Ardebil Road and the mesmerizing Heyran County of Gilan Province is best visited during spring until mid-autumn.
