Ardabil Anthropology Museum
In every part of the globe, there are places that mean more than just bricks and
mortar to its people. Such places possess a valuable and rare quality that
could not be purchased with our usual currencies, or be forged by the best of
our skills. What has given these locations their priceless value is time; all
the different eras, kingdoms, people and treatments that have contributed to
what counts as their heritage today. The
Ardabil Anthropology Museum is one
these places to both the local people of
Ardabil and the rest of Iranians. This
historical complex whose original structure dates back to the pre-Safavid era
(approximately before the year 1500) was initially built as a Bathhouse named
Zahir-al-Islam. After multiple transformations, in 1999, the Cultural Heritage
Organization of Iran repurposed and renamed the place into Ardabil Anthropology
Museum.

To better understand the tourist value this place offers, it would be beneficial
to familiarize ourselves with the Ardabil Province first. Ardabil, which is
situated in the northwestern part of Iran, enjoys all the perks that a
mountainous region could have. Cool, clean and refreshing weather, lakes, ski
resorts and to top it off a number of historically significant locations as
well. What is quite great about Ardabil Province is that, the tourist
accommodations that would be required for a memorable and full experience are
all in place. All of Ardabil tourist attractions could be easily enjoyed through
a variety of
Ardabil tours
namely
Ardabil day tours
which are specifically designed to satisfy different types of visitors and their
varying preferences. To name some of the Ardabil attractions one could mention
Shorabil Lake,
Sheik Safi
Al-Din Shrine,
Mount Sabalan Crater Lake,
Shahar Yeri Historical Site,
Alvares
Ski Resort and of course our very own Ardabil Anthropology Museum. Staying in
Ardabil Should not be a problem since a great number of different
Ardabil hotels
are ready to host the visitors. Back to the museum, which is located in Ali Qapu Square in Ardabil City, is pretty close to another one of Ardabil tourist
attractions, Sheikh Safi Al-Din’s Shrine and you can kill two birds with one
stone as visiting these two spectacular places would save you a lot of time and
money. From the center of the Ardabil City, the museum should not be more than 3
km away and with a regular taxi it would cost you 3 dollars and the short trip
would take 5 minutes. Finally, an illuminating fact about the significance of
bathhouses in Ardabil in general and this museum in particular is that it
corroborates the fact that the ancient people of Ardabil were rather keen and
enthusiastic about their hygiene and that is why they had dedicated one day of
the week – called Hamam Gooni in their local lingo – to attend these bathhouses.
The authentic representation of the people by the mannequins, the historical
documents and the fact that the place has been kept intact throughout the years
are some of the reasons why the Ardabil Anthropology Museum has been one of the
tourists’ favorite spots in Ardabil.
